Focusing all of her attention on the bathtub full of water and nothing else, Lyra swooned her hand above the water and closed her eyes. She hadn’t tested her powers in a very long time and she thought she might as well do so while she waited for Xander to return. As she had half-expected, nothing happened. Well if making some of the water bubble and rise up counted for anything. The mermaid sighed and ran circles along the water with her finger as she began to remember what it felt like to swim in the water. She longed for it and she suddenly felt the urge to let her true nature take its course. Lyra remembered having seen a mermaid fill a bathtub with salt water in a movie once, which is why she stashed a big tub of salt in the kitchen pantry along side a large tub filled with ocean water. She knew that turning into a mermaid inside the bathtub would not do her any favors but she needed it.
Lyra raced out of the bathroom and headed toward the kitchen, first bringing along the salt and setting it down on the bathroom floor, she then ran off for the tub of water and began to drag it toward the bathtub. She then proceeded to letting the water run as she ran for her room and stripped off all her clothes leaving nothing but her bra on and grabbed a towel and a skirt. When she arrived back to the bathroom, she waited until the bathtub was filled with a sufficient amount before sprinkling two large cups of salt and later pouring in seven even larger cups of the ocean water. She wondered if it would work and after stirring it with her mermaid powers, she climbed in. Lyra nearly slipped at the automatic transformation of her mortal legs into her mermaid tail. She laughed a little to herself and stroked her fully transformed tail softly with her hands. She hadn’t changed in some months now and it felt good to be back in her own…tail.
She leaned back and moved her tail as little as she could, with the small amount of room she had in the bathtub. Eventually she fell to rest and even though it was completely uncomfortable, she felt good. After some time which felt like about an hour, she tried to get up but to no avail. “Shit..” she muttered aloud and tried everything possible but was not able to get herself out of the bathtub. With so much moving around, she ended up stomach first and unable to flip herself on her back again. It looked like she would have to wait for Xander to get home and hoped that his strength would be enough to help her out.
As far as he could remember Xander had never felt more inclined to relax and stop looking over his shoulder for any immediate threats to him or Lyra. He would always be full of anxiousness through the daytime because of her tendency to always be out and about and her curiosity. There were times when he found the mermaid’s interest in mundane life that were truly endearing and he often compared it to the disney film of a mermaid as such. Though certainly much more less tame than Lyra he would tease her about leaving him for a prince of her own giving a joking voice to his unspoken fears that she would in fact do as such. At night however he felt more at ease. That was the time the hype of the downworld would peak and he could easily patrol through as another vampire that were in excess in big cities as such.
Feeding nights however…necessity was what drove Xander though it’d be denying something obvious. He hadn’t drained anyone in some time but the fear was still there. The blood was too good. And the guilt kept dropping. He had learned to keep undercover though. And it was easier to control himself when he remembered why it was that he and Lyra moved so many times over the ages. Lyra who he had many times watched over and promised sea when he always found excuses. He knew she as a mermaid needed sea but he also knew that if any mermaid was to catch hold of her in water she might be in trouble yet again. Banishment for any immortal species was tried and true between Downworlders.
It was guilt that drove Xander home and propose a trip he was sure Lyra would welcome and it was easily regretted once he heard several splashing sounds and curses from the bathroom his friend easily took over. “So,” he paused leaning against the door frame fairly amused at the sight, “tell me how is it that Lyra Dragonwell has found herself a fish in my bathtub?” The sight in front of him would be greatly praised by many men he knew and there might have been a time that he himself would’ve fancied the mermaid but thankfully thoughts like that had deserted him and all he saw now was a headstrong mermaid that managed to put herself in a very amusing situation. “You know, if I was as malicious as you can be I’d leave you here all night to think on what you did wrong. But, since I’m not,” he sighed dramatically for emphasis. “I guess I should help out your tail. Please tell me you don’t do this every time I’m gone though.” He spoke worriedly while throwing the towel he saw with her clothing over her body and assessing for the best way to get her on her feet again.
Lyra hissed and before she could command him to throw a towel over her, she felt the fabric fall over her tail and hoped that it would cover her efficiently. “Oh just shut up and help me get out of here.” She waggled her tail around some more and was once again unable to flip herself back over. The comfort will have to pass. She adjusted the towel and threw the nearest object she could find over at him. “Yes you should help me before I break my back!” She snapped and tapped the bathtub in an attempt to make him hurry it up a little bit. The longer she stayed in that position, the more painful it became. “Do whatever you need to. Just get me out.”

HISTORY
Born into a prosperous family amongst the merpeople, Lyra always had it easy. She did as she was told, followed the proper etiquitte and was even told who she would marry by her tenth year of life. In the shadow of her perfect older sister, whom everybody absolutely adored, Lyra had to put on a good face and act as if she enjoyed the pompous life. Truth be-told however, she despised everything about it. She longed for a glimpse at the life on land and wondered what it would be like to walk on two feet as opposed to simply swimming all the time. Her wish was granted when Calypso was summoned to shore to meet her new beau. They had made a pact with a Nephilim Lord and agreed to offer his eldest son as a peace offering for their previous disputes. The entire Dragonwell family was required to attend the dinner and Lyra had never felt so ecstatic in her life.
Walking on land was harder than it looked, and being the youngest and the only one on the trip who had never been to land before, things didn’t go as smoothly as planned. After an hour or so of training Lyra to walk, they all pampered themselves to look their absolute best and made their way to the giant manor. Everything was completely glamorous and Lyra couldn’t help but wonder why her father wouldn’t have them live on land, as many merpeople did. It was on that night she met a young Nephilim soldier by the name of Xander Gravespell. He was a friend of the family whom they were dining with and Lyra instantly hit it off with the boy. So much that they would set up meetings on shore where Xander would bring her clothing and they would go about the town, exploring and having fun. Their fun lasted about five years before Lyra’s father caught them and brought her back to the ocean. After her trial, she was banished from their ocean waters and never to be seen again for there would be severe consequences should she ever dare swim back into or around their territory. She was branded a traitor and the only place she could go was with Xander. He was a year short from becoming eighteen, when he would become an adult and free to do as he pleased. But it would be nearly impossible to keep Lyra a secret and they had to get out of the town so she could have access to waters that did not belong to her clan.
Xander became a traitor to the Nephilim and was wanted for a couple of years, until it was believed that he was dead. Xander and Lyra traveled to England where they attempted to make an easy living, occasionally taking trips to the ocean waters so Lyra could have a swim. The both of them rogue and not causing a single bother to any race, not even the mundanes. Not counting of course all the training and fighting Xander had prepared Lyra with. She was as good as any warrior. Their life was simply glamorous until Xander’s twentyth birthday. He was supposed to meet Lyra at a pub after he got let off from work but when he did not arrive, Lyra became worried. She searched their home and even went to his workplace, only to be told that he had already left. He went missing for three days and it wasn’t until the third night that Xander approached Lyra and he was no longer human. He had been turned into a vampire. Lyra knew in that moment that they had to leave the country, before the local coven took possession of Xander and took him away from her. It was a struggle, teaching the fledgling how to control his urges and cravings for human blood; she only knew what Xander had taught her about vampires, how to kill them, but she had not the slightest idea how to help him. She turned to warlock, Magnus Bane, for guidance and he helped them out as much as he could, for he did not want to spend too much time with them. Lyra thanked him and paid him by giving up some of their gold, but the warlock said that they would be needing it more.
So off they went and after some years, Xander was able to come back to some of his senses. Lyra has spent the majority of her life fending for herself while still keeping an eye on her good friend. She lives seeking for any opportunity she could get to live through an adventure, for she has already been part of many.
PERSONALITY.
Lyra is like any typical mermaid, she uses her beauty and charm to attract any possible prey and once she is able to she jumps in for the attack. She does not really trust anybody but herself (with the exception of her friend Xander who is a slight stretch) and prides herself on being independent and able to take care of herself should she end up alone at any given time. She is a little bit heartless, refusing to let any sort of “mundane” emotions she might have over-take her entire persona for fear of becoming weak and less like a mermaid. To any person or downworlder she would seem like a typical mundane while on land, though to those who have the sight and are downworlders she gives off a slight scent that is only familiarized with the merpeople. Over the years she has been able to hide out that scent as much as possible, but if one were to sniff her out while knowing what they were looking for, her identity would be revealed.
She has also been able to master the art of deception and few would know not to cross her, she has been able to acquire some connections over the years and while some would probably call her a “dark mermaid” she simply sees it as a means to survive. There are not many places she could go to and she does need ocean waters in order to maintain herself alive and fully energized.
Lyra is able to make some friends, but she hardly ever considers them trust-worthy allies. She merely wants to blend in with everyone else and her natural bubbly and warm personality have been able to make that task all the more easier for her. However, having spent so many years on land already has resulted in softening her up a little bit. Toward people, because she still remains to be strong herself.
